FOURTEEN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS MAKE
NEWSWEEK’S LIST OF TOP HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE NATION

MIAMI – Fourteen Miami-Dade County public schools earned their way onto Newsweek magazine’s list of America’s Top High Schools.

Miami-Dade’s public high schools that made the list are American, Coral Gables, Coral Reef, Design & Architecture, Doral Academy, Dr. Michael M. Krop, G. Holmes Braddock, MAST Academy, Mater Academy Charter, Miami Killian, Miami Palmetto, New World School of the Arts, School for Advanced Studies and Southwest Miami.

Public high schools were ranked according to a ratio devised by Jay Mathews of Newsweek Magazine: the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and/or Cambridge tests taken by all students at a school in 2008 divided by the number of graduating seniors.  All of the schools on the list have an index of at least 1.000; they are in the top five percent of public schools measured this way.
