In December 2000, the United Nations General Assembly passed resolution 55/76, marking June 20th as World Refugee Day.  In honor of this resolution, Miami Beach Adult will offer a fair to educate students and the general public about the plight of millions of people who are forced out of their homes and countries daily to protect their lives.

Since 1996, Miami-Dade County Public Schools has assisted these individuals through the S.A.V.E.S. Program (Skills for Academic, Vocational and English Studies), which serves as a support for these refugees.  Funded through a contract with the Department of Children and Families Refugee Services Office, S.A.V.E.S., was established to solve the educational needs of refugees in the areas of academics, technical and in the English language.
