NEW WORLD SCHOOL OF THE ARTS STUDENT MUSICIAN
PLAYS ‘AMERICA’S MUSIC’ AT THE WHITE HOUSE

MIAMI – Tony Madruga, a 10th grader at New World School of the Arts, was part of a jazz quartet that performed at the White House recently to kick off a music series sponsored by first lady Michelle Obama. Tony, who played the piano, can be seen in a two-and-a-half minute CNN video clip on the network’s website.

In the clip, Obama calls jazz “America’s greatest artistic gift to the world,” and shares anecdotes about her jazz-loving maternal grandfather while the quartet plays.  The clip, titled “Jazz in the White House,” can be viewed at www.cnn.com/video/#/video/living/2009/06/15/natpkg.flotus.jazz.cnn?iref=videosearch.
