M-DCPS, CITY OF HIALEAH LAUNCH COMMUNITY EDUCATION TOUR Miami – Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho is launching a series of community education tours throughout the many diverse communities that make up Miami-Dade County. The first community education tour will kick off on Monday, January 11, 2010 at 7:30 a.m. at Hialeah City Hall, 501 Palm Avenue, Hialeah. “The tour will provide local elected officials and business and community leaders the opportunity to visit the schools and obtain a close look at their improvements and educational achievements over the course of the last year,” said Carvalho upon launching this community-focused initiative. The education tour will take school district administrators, elected local officials, and community leaders headed by Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina, to three of the city’s premier educational centers: Hialeah Senior High School, M. A. Milam – K-8th Center, and Westland Hialeah Senior High School. Mayor Robaina has distinguished himself by providing educational opportunities and excellence to the children of Hialeah, the fifth largest city in the State of Florida and a community whose population is primarily Hispanic. After a brief business luncheon at the historical Hialeah Race Track, the tour will end at Hialeah City Hall. The tours are part of Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ community outreach effort and its educational compact with municipalities. # # # 10-JJS/091/TC |
