FIVE FINALISTS VIE FOR MIAMI-DADE'S
TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Miami-Dade County Public Schools' most outstanding teacher will be named at the 2011 Francisco R. Walker Teacher of the Year recognition dinner at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 3, at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa – Legends Ballroom, 4400 N.W. 87th Ave., Doral.

The five finalists, the regions they represent and their schools are listed as follows:

  • Region I - Carolina Torres, Spanish Lake Elementary
  • Region II - Glenda Moton, Linda Lentin K-8 Center
  • Region III - Jeannette Acevedo-Isenberg, Sunset Elementary
  • Region IV - William “Will” Dukes, John A. Ferguson Senior
  • Region V - Cristine O’Hara, Palmetto Middle

The event is underwritten by Cigna Healthcare of Florida and co-sponsored by Univision 23/Telefutura 69, Nova Southeastern University, American Airlines Inc., Print Farm, ING Finances and Fox Mar Photography. Toyota of South Florida will present the winner with the keys to a new car.

The District and United Teachers of Dade also will recognize the 2010 Rookie Teacher of the Year finalists, and announce the winner at the event.  The finalists are listed as follows:

  • Region I - Carmen Valdez, Spanish Lake Elementary
  • Region II - Tanya Diaz, Thena Crowder Elementary
  • Region III - Natalie F. Dib-Roy, New World School of the Arts
  • Region IV - Jennifer Araneda, Miami Killian Senior High
  • Region V -  Ellis A. Jenoure, Coconut Palm K-8 Center
