FIVE MIAMI-DADE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS RECOGNIZED IN
“This achievement reflects the School Board’s commitment to providing our students with advanced academics,’ said Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho. “It is giving our students a head start on their college careers.” Florida, which earned the distinction of having the fourth-highest number of students taking AP Exams in the nation, experienced the largest single-year increase in the percentage of its student population receiving at least one score of 3 or higher on an AP Exam during high school (3.1 percent). Seven Florida public schools lead the nation in increasing AP access and performance for African-American and Hispanic 2009 graduating seniors. No other state in the country has as many public schools recognized. The five Miami-Dade schools are as follows:
AP prepares students for college success and helps offset college costs. Research shows that AP students are much more likely to earn a bachelor’s degree in four years than their peers. Participation and success in AP courses also helps students qualify for college scholarships. The College Board is a not-for-profit membership association whose mission is to connect students to college success and opportunity. The College Board’s AP program more than 30 courses and exams and provides students with the opportunity to take college-level courses and earn college credit or placement, while still in high school. # # # 10/JS/111/HD |
