NEW WORLD SCHOOL OF THE ARTS’ JAZZ BAND AMONG 15 FINALISTS
CHOSEN FOR 15TH ANNUAL ESSENTIALLY ELLINGTON

MIAMI — The New World School of the Arts (NWSA) Jazz Ensemble was named one of 15 finalist bands from across the nation to participate in the acclaimed 15th Annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival. Finalists were chosen based on their interpretation, technique, tone/intonation, soulfulness and improvisation of several Duke Ellington compositions.

The bands will compete and participate in workshops, jam sessions, and more, during a three-day competition in New York City on May 8-10, at the Lincoln Center. The three top-placing bands will perform with Lincoln Center Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis, as guest soloist, followed by a performance by the 15-piece Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.  The Festival’s finale is an awards banquet honoring outstanding soloists, sections and the top three bands.

This unique musical education program has reached more than 300,000 students from more than 3,000 high schools across the 50 states, Canada and Australia during its rich 15-year history.
