Students will be attending a performance of Peter and the Wolf at the University of Miami's BankUnited Center as part of Miami-Dade County Public Schools' Cultural Passport program. Peter and the Wolf is being performed by the University of Miami's Frost Symphony Orchestra. The piece is designed to introduce students to the instruments of the orchestra.
During the 2009-2010 school year, M-DCPS launched the Cultural Passport program, a new educational initiative designed to provide all students in grades K-12 with a different cultural field experience each school year. In the course of their education, all students will visit museums and art galleries, and experience live musical, theatrical, and dance performances. To ensure a well-rounded experience for all students, a different theme or focus will be designated for each grade level. The theme or focus will center on an art form or cultural experience at each grade level.
Through the cultural field experience and interdisciplinary classroom instruction, students will make meaningful connections between the arts and non-arts disciplines while further developing literacy skills, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and improving their overall academic performance in all classes.
