MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS PREPARE FOR REGULAR SCHOOL DAY ON MONDAY, APRIL 12

TEACHERS RECEIVE MESSAGES OF SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT

MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Public Schools administrators have made preparations to ensure a regular school day at schools across the District on Monday, April 12, 2010.  School principals have been surveyed about anticipated needs for the day, substitute teachers have been alerted, and administrative staff members with teacher certification have been notified that they may be called upon to work tomorrow, if needed.

“While we are sensitive to the concerns and frustrations expressed recently by our teachers, we are urging them to report to work as usual,” said Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho.  “We have always supported teacher quality and accountability, and while we understand the frustration teachers are experiencing, we expect to have a regular school day tomorrow. Because instructional time is critical to our students, teachers are encouraged to use constructive means outside of regular school hours to express their opinions."

Teachers are receiving recorded messages of support and encouragement from District administrators this afternoon, urging them to report to work as scheduled on Monday, April 12, 2010.
