SOME 100 ELEMENTARY, SECONDARY SCHOOLS COMPETE AT SECME
DISTRICT OLYMPIAD & FESTIVAL

Over 100 Miami-Dade elementary and secondary schools participated in the annual Miami-Dade County Public Schools Elementary Science Fair and SECME District Olympiad and Festival held last week at Miami Dade College North Campus.

Elementary students presented projects demonstrating student research in the disciplines of life, earth and physical sciences.  SECME student teams created basswood bridges, raced mousetrap-powered cars powered, launched water rockets, and created essays, artwork and banners that were displayed and judged.

In SECME, students are required to design, build and test a variety of engineering and research projects throughout the year.  Students also are exposed to careers and practicing engineers who help them understand the importance of mathematics and science in a global economy with the ultimate goal of encouraging students to pursue post-secondary degrees in engineering, mathematics, science and technology.

A list of all the student winners, their projects, the awards they won and the schools they attend may be seen on the District’s Curriculum And Instruction – Science website:
