MAST ACADEMY IS ONE OF 6 FINALISTS IN PRESIDENT OBAMA’S Online voting starts April 26 - 29 to decide top three schools; Pres. Obama chooses the winner. MIAMI - The White House and the Department of Education announced a Race to the Top High School Commencement Challenge early this year inviting public schools across the country to compete to have President Barack Obama speak at their graduation ceremony. Six national finalists have been chosen from among thousands of applications and Miami-Dade’s own MAST Academy is one of the finalists! MAST needs our support in the next round of the competition – a public online vote determines the top three schools. The President will then select one winner from these three finalists and visit the winning high school to deliver the commencement address to the class of 2010. Voting starts from Monday, April 26, 8 a.m. EDT to Thursday, April 29, 11:59 p.m. EDT at www.whitehouse.gov/commencement. Applications were judged based on the school’s performance and dedication to providing students an excellent education that will prepare them to graduate ready for college and career choices. MAST Academy is the only Florida school chosen as a finalist, and all Florida citizens could benefit from the positive attention cast on the success of this student-driven, school-wide effort. The Race to the Top High School Commencement Challenge was announced last February to emphasize innovative high school programs with successful models that result in college admission and career readiness. The Challenge is part of President Obama's goal to have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world by 2020.
