MIAMI – The Miami-Dade County School Board accepted a highly competitive grant under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act totaling $3,473,498 to fund broadband education, awareness, training, access, equipment, and to support community institutions and job-creating strategic facilities for a period of three years.

The District’s grant opportunity brings forth the following:

  • broadband awareness to over 345,458 students and their families
  • computers for 6,000 students and families
  • 10,000 one-year Internet subscriptions for families in these 35 targeted schools
  • training for parents

The program has built upon District successes in implementing technology-infused instruction and various digital inclusion strategies including access to the Links to Learning Program, created by Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho; integrating technology in the classroom assigning one computer per student to be used in and out of the classroom; the Elevate Miami-Rites of Passage Program in partnership with the City of Miami; and The Education Fund’s Family Tech Program.
