SUPERINTENDENT CARVALHO TO BE HONORED BY POSSE FOUNDATION

MIAMI - Miami-Dade Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho will be honored as a Posse Star by The Posse Foundation, Inc. during the Foundation’s hallmark annual gala, An Evening of Stars tonight in New York City.

The event, which will be emceed by 60 Minutes correspondent Leslie Stahl, recognizes individuals and corporate leaders for the significant contributions they make to the field of education. A Posse Star is an individual who exhibits leadership and who positively affects people’s lives.

“This is a tremendous honor, not only for me, but for every student, every parent, and every employee of our school district,” said Carvalho. “Ours is a labor of love, and I am grateful to the Posse Foundation for acknowledging our work.”

Founded in 1989, the goals of the Posse Foundation include expanding the college candidate pool to comprise more multicultural students and assisting colleges to build campus environments that are more welcoming to students of all backgrounds. In addition, the Foundation ensures that Posse Scholars achieve academically and graduate to become workforce leaders. Last July, 30 Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) students were awarded four-year, full-tuition scholarships through a partnership between M-DCPS and the Posse Foundation.
