M-DCPS HONORS PRINCIPAL, EMPLOYEES OF THE YEAR
AT SIXTH ANNUAL 'EDDIES' FETE

MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Public Schools honored its finest employees at an awards ceremony at Jungle Island today.  Miami Palmetto Senior High Principal Howard I. Weiner won top honors as the District Principal of the Year.

Weiner began his career at Miami-Dade County Public Schools as a temporary instructor in 1990 and has been at Miami Palmetto for the last five years.  Mr. Weiner describes his current assignment as the most rewarding professional experience of his educational career.  His goal has been to improve school attendance, and under his leadership a plan was created to eliminate absences and increase the school’s graduation rate.

Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho presented the Sixth Annual Education Awards for Exemplary Service, known as “The Eddies,” which recognize the outstanding contributions of M-DCPS educators, support staff and administrators.

The winners and their schools are listed below with their category:

Principal of the Year – Howard I. Weiner, Miami Palmetto Senior

Assistant Principal of the Year – Mary Kate Parton, John F. Kennedy Middle

Office Employee of the Year – Toniann Fairclough, School for Advanced Studies

Paraprofessional of the Year – Ruth R. Tisdoll, Miami Coral Park Senior

AFSCME Employee of the Year – Maggie D. Green, Country Club Middle
