M-DCPS STUDENTS MAKE HISTORY AT NATIONAL SECME ESSAY, MIAMI - Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) students swept the top awards for the National SECME Competition held at the Georgia Institute of Technology last month. M-DCPS had winners in both the essay competition and the water-bottle rocket event in the elementary, middle and senior high school levels. In SECME, students are required to design, build, and test a variety of engineering and research projects throughout the year. Students also are exposed to careers and practicing engineers who help them understand the importance of mathematics and science in the global economy. The ultimate goal is to encourage students to pursue postsecondary degrees in engineering, mathematics, science and technology. Receiving the first place honors were:
