FIVE M-DCPS GRADS TO BE AWARDED SCHOLARSHIPS FROM
HISPANIC POLICE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION, JUNE 28
Five Miami-Dade County Public Schools graduates are among 10 students being awarded scholarships by the Hispanic Police Officers Association (HPOA) at a ceremony being held Monday, June 28, at 7:30 p.m., at their headquarters. The headquarters are located at 1470 N.W. 107th Ave., Suite P, Doral.
Below is a list of the students, the scholarships awarded, their high schools and the universities they plan to attend:
$2,500 Scholarship Awards
Bertila Fernandez, Miami Norland Senior High - Florida State University
Alexis V. Marling, Coral Reef Senior High - University of Central Florida
$1,000 Scholarship Awards
D'Andre J. Clements, Miami Norland Senior High - University of Florida
Krysten Vazquez, John A. Ferguson Senior High School – University of Miami
Crystal Shirley, William Turner Technical Arts High School – Florida A & M University
HPOA has awarded nearly $70,000 in scholarships since 2006. Criteria for selection include attending an accredited college or enrollment in a degree-seeking program for the school term beginning in the fall of the same calendar year.
The association was founded in 1979 to promote the recruitment of Hispanics in police departments. It provides services such as legal assistance and career-enhancement training for its members throughout Florida.
