FCAT SCORES RELEASED, M-DCPS SCHOOL PERFORMANCE SURGES MIAMI– After numerous delays, the Florida Department of Education finally released student performance data from the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT), and the results for Miami-Dade County Public Schools are stellar. The growth exhibited by M-DCPS students on FCAT Reading, Mathematics, and Writing tests exceeded that of the State at nearly every grade level. For the first time, increases in the percentages of students’ scoring high in the District in Reading and Mathematics met or exceeded those across the state in all but Grade 9, resulting in performance that outpaced state averages five fold in Reading and doubling the state’s numbers in Mathematics. “In the face of negative headlines like the oil spill off the Gulf Coast and the delayed FCAT results,” said Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho, “our Miami-Dade County Public Schools students, led by our teachers and administrators, have outperformed their counterparts across the State and delivered a number of firsts for our school district.” Complete District, State, and school summary reports will be posted as they become available on the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) website at http://fcat.fldoe.org. In addition, an interactive database will be available at http://fcat.fldoe.org/results/default.asp and FCAT results website (spreadsheets) will be available at http://fcat.fldoe.org/mediapacket/2010/default.asp.
