M-DCPS, CONSULATE GENERAL OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY
RENEW MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

MIAMI - Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho and Klaus Ranner, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Miami met today to sign the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) and the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany. This MOU regulates the continuation of the German Section of the International Studies (IS) program.

The German section of the IS Program was initiated in the late 1980s. This is the third time the MOU has been renewed since it was first signed in 1998. The previous MOU was signed
in 2001. The IS program provides Miami-Dade County Public Schools students with the opportunity to become literate in both English and German and to pursue an academic curriculum with an international focus that addresses rigorous standards of both US and European Union educational systems.

The Consulate General of the Republic of Germany in Miami funds four teachers of German language arts and humanities. The schools that offer the German Section of the International Studies Program are:  Sunset Elementary, George W. Carver Middle and Coral Reef Senior High.
