MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS, REGION CENTER V MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Region Center V honored eighty-one students in a ceremony on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at Southwood Middle School. This event was the culminating activity for the College Tour Institute held this summer. “This was truly a joyous occasion,” said Dr. Lawrence S. Feldman, School Board Member, District 9. “We were able to partner with the private sector and raise $31,000 in scholarships for these students.” Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Region Center V was able to make Dr. Feldman’s vision of offering a summer College Tour Institute for all children in Region V and District 9 a reality. Dr. Feldman had approached Region V administration with this plan, which he had originally implemented when he was a principal at Devon Aire K-8 Center. The purpose of the summer College Tour Institute is to provide pertinent information regarding university/college entrance requirements and strategies to prepare students for the college application process.
