REDLAND ELEMENTARY STUDENTS TO RECEIVE BACKPACKS More than 850 students from Redland Elementary School will be getting an extra treat on Monday, Aug. 23, the first day of school – a brand new backpack chock-full of school supplies thanks to Discovery Communications’ annual initiative, “Discovery Gets Packing.” The Discovery crew will be handing out the backpacks at 9 a.m. at Redland Elementary, 24501 S.W. 162nd Ave., Homestead, FL 33031. Each backpack contains a 3-ring binder, a 24-pack of crayons, a box of tissues, a set of dividers; a 12-pack of pencils; an eraser, and a glue stick. Since the program started in 2008, Discovery has donated 3,500 backpacks to select schools in a number of cities around the country that have a substantial number of financially disadvantaged students. The goal is for all students to start out the new school year on a high note. For more information, contact Cory Rodriguez, Principal, Redland Elementary, at # # # 10-JS/234/HD |
