REDLAND ELEMENTARY STUDENTS TO RECEIVE BACKPACKS
WITH SUPPLIES FROM DISCOVERY COMMUNICATIONS, AUG. 23

More than 850 students from Redland Elementary School will be getting an extra treat on Monday, Aug. 23, the first day of school – a brand new backpack chock-full of school supplies thanks to Discovery Communications’ annual initiative, “Discovery Gets Packing.”

The Discovery crew will be handing out the backpacks at 9 a.m. at Redland Elementary, 24501 S.W. 162nd Ave., Homestead, FL  33031.

Each backpack contains a 3-ring binder, a 24-pack of crayons, a box of tissues, a set of dividers; a 12-pack of pencils; an eraser, and a glue stick.

Since the program started in 2008, Discovery has donated 3,500 backpacks to select schools in a number of cities around the country that have a substantial number of financially disadvantaged students.  The goal is for all students to start out the new school year on a high note.
