Miami-Dade Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho will visit several Miami-Dade County public schools on Monday, Aug. 23, the opening day for public schools.
In addition to other visits, the Superintendent will be at Phyllis Ruth Miller Elementary School, 840 N.E. 87 St., Miami, 33138 at 7:55 a.m. He will also attend a Discovery Education backpack giveaway at Redland Elementary School, 24501 S.W. 162 Avenue, Miami, 33031 at 1 p.m.
The school district will open several new schools this year, including M.A.S.T. @ Homestead, 955 S.E. 18 Avenue, Homestead, FL 33035, where students will have the opportunity to study advanced programs in the fields of biomedical, pharmaceutical services, and physical therapy; International Studies Preparatory Academy (ISPA), 2705 S.W. 3 Street, Miami, FL 33135, will allow students to study core subject areas in English and receive up to three hours of instruction in French, Italian, or Spanish; Mathematics Academy at Carol City Senior High School, 3422 N.W. 187 Street, Opa Locka, FL 33056, will give students the opportunity to participate in college level courses through dual enrollment and internships in these fields. Students will graduate having earned college credit, and iPrep Academy, 1500 Biscayne Blvd. Miami, FL 33132, billed as a high school for the new millennium, will offer students a rigorous curriculum consisting of honors and advanced placement courses, and dynamic instruction focusing on leadership and problem-solving skills. |
