SUPERINTENDENT CARVALHO BRINGS EXPERIENCE, FRESH PERSPECTIVE
TO TEACHING TASK FORCE

MIAMI – With years of experience as a high school teacher and administrator, as well as his leadership of the fourth largest school district in the nation, Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho will bring a fresh perspective and innovative approach to another appointment – chairing a statewide group of education stakeholders that will work to improve the quality of education in Florida’s schools.

Carvalho has been appointed to chair a 21-member Florida’s Task Force on Educational Excellence. The task force is comprised of teachers, superintendents, school board members, parents, and representatives from teacher associations, Florida colleges, businesses and legislators from around the state.

“This is a great opportunity to take bold steps toward improving the confidence and long-term success of Florida’s students and teachers,” said Superintendent Carvalho. “Education must be a top priority to secure a prosperous future for Florida.”

Carvalho will lead the task force in making recommendations to promote and sustain a high-quality teacher workforce that meets Florida’s education needs, enhances student achievement, competes in a global economy, and provides a forum for collaborating on teacher compensation and performance.

Recommendations will be made to the Governor, the State Board of Education, the Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, and the President of the Florida Senate by December.
