       TERRA ENVIRONMENTAL RECEIVES GOLD CERTIFICATION
FROM U.S. GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL

MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ TERRA Environmental Research Institute was recently awarded Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) as a “LEED” (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) school.

TERRA Environmental is the first new full-campus (over 500 students), public high school in the country to attain such distinction under LEED for Schools. One of the requirements to be considered for Gold certification is the adoption of a sustainable Master Plan for the facility by its governing body. TERRA Environmental Research Institute will serve as an inspiring example to other school districts around the nation committed to the green design concept in building new facilities in the future.

The USGBC is a non-profit organization that comprises every sector of the building industry and whose primary goal is to promote healthy, energy efficient and environmentally sustainable facilities. The LEED green building certification system is the foremost rating system for design, construction, and operation of green buildings. Over 35,000 projects participate in this rating system, comprising over 5.6 billion square feet of construction space in all 50 states and 91countries around the world.
