NORTHWESTERN SENIOR HIGH 11TH-GRADE SINGER WINS SCHOLARSHIP AT
SUPERINTENDENT’S BENEFIT CONCERT SERIES COMPETITION
Samuel Collie, an 11th-grader from Miami Northwestern Senior High, was chosen the winner of the first ever “Best Voice? Your Choice!” concert by audience votes, last Saturday at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County. The competition was part of the Superintendent’s Benefit Concert Series.
Collie, who bested 11 of the District’s most gifted vocalists, sang “I Know Where I’ve Been” from the musical “Hairspray.” He won a $5,000 scholarship, a recording session at the legendary Hit Factory studios, breakfast with award-winning music producer/composer Rudy Perez, and a $5,000 award for Northwestern High’s arts program including an interactive classroom technology package from eInstruction.
Other concert sponsors include the Arsht Center, Herff Jones, Target, Munilla Family Foundation, Inc., Pearson and Blue Cross Blue Shield. The proceeds from this talent contest will benefit public education programs.
