FIVE MIAMI-DADE PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO PARTICIPATE IN
SECOND ANNUAL HOLY MOLY REDLAND’S GUACAMOLE FESTIVAL

On Saturday, November 6, students from five Miami-Dade public schools will participate in the second annual Holy Moly Redland’s Guacamole Festival.  The event will take place at 30205 SW 217 Avenue, Redland.  The Holy Moly Redland’s Guacamole Festival seeks to raise awareness of locally-grown Florida avocados and highlight the combination of food service and Florida horticulture and its impact on youth from high school through college.

Students from Robert Morgan Educational Center, Young Men’s Academy at MacArthur South, Homestead, John A. Ferguson, and South Dade senior high schools, in conjunction with the Miami Culinary Institute at Miami Dade College, will showcase their culinary skills at the festival.  The school’s culinary programs will be given Florida avocados to prepare dishes to be sold at the festival.  The school’s artists will create artwork based upon “local” fruits, vegetables, farming, and Redland scenery. This year, students from the Young Men’s Academy at MacArthur South will also showcase their art pieces. All proceeds will go directly to each school’s culinary programs.

At last year’s event, students from four senior high schools set the Guinness World Record for the largest serving of guacamole at 4,114 pounds.

Tickets for the event are $6 in advance and $10 the day of the event.
