9TH-GRADE WINNER OF SPANISH HERITAGE HISTORY BEE WINS The Spain Florida Foundation 500 Years saved a very special award for the winner of the high school-level Spanish Heritage History Bee; Andrea Villa, a 9th-grade student at the International Studies Preparatory Academy (ISPA), received a two-week study scholarship to Spain for next summer. The event was held last month at Coral Way K-8 Center and was organized by the Spain Florida Foundation 500 Years, in collaboration with the Consul General of Spain in Miami and Miami-Dade County Public Schools. The competition awarded students who excelled in the history and presence of Spain in colonial Florida. The foundation is preparing for the 500th anniversary of Spanish Explorer Juan Ponce de Leon’s arrival to Florida in 1513 by organizing a series of events that highlight the rich Hispanic legacy in Florida and the U.S. Additional information about ISPA is available at http://ispa.dadeschools.net.
