EXXON MOBIL RECOGNIZES M-DCPS STUDENTS MIAMI - Two M-DCPS senior high school students were recently awarded the 2010 Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards in Engineering and Mathematics sponsored by the Exxon Mobil Corporation and the Hispanic Heritage Foundation. Kevin Lemus, a student at John A. Ferguson High School was named the Silver Medallion winner and received a scholarship in the amount of $2,000. Sophia Utset-Ward, a student at the School for Advanced Studies – Wolfson Campus was named the Bronze Medallion winner and was honored with $1,000 in educational grants. The 2010 Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards program offers educational grants to Hispanic high school seniors in 10 regions: Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Phoenix, San Antonio, northern California, and Washington, DC. Students from each region receive awards in the following areas: Engineering and Mathematics, Business, Education, Journalism, Leadership and Sports. Award recipients are chosen by regional selection committees based on their academic achievement, community service, and an essay about the importance their heritage has played in their success.
