M-DCPS KICKS OFF LET’S MOVE! MIAMI CAMPAIGN TODAY! MIAMI - Starting today for the next six weeks, all businesses, corporations, colleges and universities, and organizations are being asked to join Miami-Dade public school students and employees to participate in First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! Campaign. While students are being asked to be physically active 60 minutes a day, 5-days a week, adults only require 30 minutes. The initiative runs from January 10 – February 22. Last month, Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho launched the Let’s Move! Miami campaign, with the Miami-Dade County Health Department, during the Miami Dolphins halftime show. He asked every student and employee to become physically active for the 6-week period and to log their activities on the President’s Active Lifestyle log. Activities can be recorded on the President’s Active Lifestyle Award website or on a paper log. To log your activities go to: www.presidentschallenge.org/challenge/active/index.shtml. The First Lady’s Let’s Move! campaign was launched in February 2010 in partnership with the USDA, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the President's Council on Physical Fitness, Sports and Nutrition and other members of the White House Task Force on Childhood Obesity. The initiative cultivates the appreciation of nutritious food and inspires kids and adults to engage in physical activity. It empowers parents and caregivers by emphasizing their role in making healthy choices for children and stresses the importance of access to nutritious foods in schools and communities. For additional information on how to get involved, contact Dr. Jayne Greenberg, Executive Director, Physical Education and Health Literacy, Miami-Dade County Public Schools at 305-995-1963.
