FRANK C. MARTIN K-8 CENTER TO HOST ‘DRUM MAJORS FOR PEACE’ PARADE TO CELEBRATE DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR., JAN 12 Frank C. Martin K-8 Center will be hosting the marching bands from Richmond Heights and Arthur & Polly Mays middle schools tomorrow (Jan. 12) at 8:45 a.m. in a school- and community-wide celebration titled, “Drum Majors for Peace,” to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Approximately 1,200 participants will be marching in a school-wide parade with the student-centered program on the physical education field. The program will include speeches, songs, cheers and dances. Principal Pamela F. Brown wanted to ensure that her students are familiar with Dr. King’s legacy of humanitarian efforts, and his vision of people living, playing and working together in a more peaceful world. Her students initiated a community service project to collect and donate toiletries to various homeless shelters in the Homestead area. As an International Baccalaureate school, the school’s philosophy reflects many of Dr. King’s goals: to develop citizens who recognize their common humanity, who are open-minded, caring, and principled and who strive to create a better and more peaceful world.
