AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES MIAMI – By an overwhelming 98 percent majority, members of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), Local 1184 ratified an agreement this week that will provide a one-time salary award for employees of the bargaining unit that includes Miami-Dade County Public Schools bus drivers, custodians, maintenance, and cafeteria workers. Ten- and twelve-month employees will receive a One-Time Award equal to one percent of the employee’s base salary. Superintendent of Schools Alberto Carvalho hailed the decision of the workers. “This shows that these employees have made a very wise choice in opting for the long-term preservation of jobs and healthcare benefits, rather than a short-term solution that could affect the workforce negatively.” The tentative agreement represents a total compensation package inclusive of health insurance, which retains a free health insurance option for employees. # # # 11-JS/014/JS |
