MIAMI BEACH HIGH ACADEMY OF HOSPITALITY & TOURISM CONTINUES ITS The student team of Isabella Mongalo, Flavia Oliveira and Francheska Salguero from Miami Beach Senior High became the State champions of the Lodging Management Program competition sponsored by the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association Educational Foundation, held in Wesley Chapel, Fla. This feat is the sixth win for Beach High’s Academy of Hospitality & Tourism (AOHT) out of eight competitions. The team, under the leadership of Lead Teacher Patricia Gregory, demonstrated skills in hotel operations, which included case studies in food and beverage, sales/marketing, a night audit, room inspection, banquet and event planning as well as a knowledge bowl showcasing their skills and knowledge in Lodging Management. Each student received a $1,000 scholarship (renewable for four years) to Johnson & Wales University and Daytona State College. They will represent the state of Florida at the national championship in Orlando this April. AOHT is a marketing program under the auspices of the School Choice & Parental Options Office and a member program of the National Academy Foundation (NAF), a national network of career academies to support the development of America’s youth toward personal and professional success in high school, higher education and throughout their careers. Miami-Dade County Public Schools has 14 Academies of Hospitality and Tourism.
