NORLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL MAGNET STUDENTS DEMONSTRATE Norland Middle School’s Magnet Art students showcased their talent and excelled in several competitions around the District and State. Five student artists had their artwork featured in the 25th Annual Impressions in Watercolor at the Dave & Mary Alper Jewish Community Center. Student Arnelle Carbon won the second place Merit Award and received a $75 gift certificate. Also competing were Jasmine Albert, Kinjah Cadet, Terry Gifford and Zarria Headley. Three students: Quanisha Fleming, Tanya Jean-Baptiste and Danzel King, each currently have a beautiful self-portrait in charcoal on display in the lobby of the School Board Administration Building for the Black History Exhibition. Four of the student artists: Arnelle Carbon, Sierrah Hardley, Tanya Jean-Baptiste, and Attlesha Harry, will have their work exhibited in the Small Works II Exhibition. These pieces were very detailed and had a size limitation of 9x9 inches. Academically, Norland Middle School is making great strides in writing, achieving top honors in essay writing competitions held throughout the county. Kevinisha Scott won first place for grades 6-8 in the District’s Annual Black History Essay Competition. The school also achieved high honors in the Annual Veteran’s Essay Competition with Ogechi Anyagaligbo (1st place) Arnelle Carbon (2nd place) and Kevin Duncanson (3rd Place).
