WHY: |
Miami-Dade County Public Schools is holding a district-wide spring social for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Approximately 450 students from 16 high schools are expected to participate in the event. The spring social provides an opportunity for students with ASD to attend a “prom-like” event with their peers. It gives teachers the opportunity to teach relevant social skills while students practice those social skills in a fun setting. The event is entirely funded through sponsor donations. The fiesta-themed event is supported by the Mexican Consulate, which is providing the decorations and an appearance by the Mariachi Voces de América.
