M-DCPS HONORS PRINCIPAL, EMPLOYEES OF THE YEAR
AT SEVENTH ANNUAL 'EDDIES' FETE

MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) honored its finest employees at an awards ceremony on May 25 at Jungle Island.  Sean E. Gallagan, principal at George T. Baker Aviation School won top honors as the District’s Principal of the Year.

Gallagan began his career at Miami-Dade County Public Schools in 1989 as a teacher and has been at George T. Baker for the past six years.  Mr. Gallagan is a trendsetter in Miami-Dade County with the implementation of the state of Florida’s Ready to Work Program which gives students a competitive edge.  His goal has been to improve the student success rate, and he implemented a Vocational Preparatory Instruction Lab to do just that.

Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho presented the 7th Annual Education Awards for Exemplary Service, known as “The Eddies,” which recognize the outstanding contributions of M-DCPS educators, support staff and administrators.

The winners and their schools are listed below with their category:

Principal of the Year – Sean E. Gallagan, George T. Baker Aviation School

Assistant Principal of the Year – Martha C. Chang, Miami Edison Senior

Office Employee of the Year – Lisa M. Burke, Homestead Middle

Paraprofessional of the Year – Le’Verne Washington, Miami Coral Park Senior

AFSCME Employee of the Year – Jerome Baker, Miami Carol City Senior
