ALGEBRA 1 EOC RESULTS SHOW M-DCPS STUDENTS CONTINUE TO EXCEL

MIAMI – Overall 28 percent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ (M-DCPS) middle and high school students participating in the Spring 2011 Florida Algebra 1 End-of-Course (EOC) Assessment scored high, according to results released today by the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE). There are three levels at which students may score: Low (1), Middle (2), and High (3). In Miami-Dade, 28,066 students participated in the Algebra I EOC, with 28 percent of students scoring in the third or high level.

Highlights of additional M-DCPS results are noted below:

  • The majority of M-DCPS middle school students who took Algebra 1 on an accelerated basis, scored in the highest third on the Algebra 1 EOC, when compared to all students tested statewide.
  • Sixty-five percent of M-DCPS 7th grade students scored in the highest third.
  • Fifty-nine percent of M-DCPS 8th grade students scored in the highest third.
  • Sixty-four percent of all enrolled 9th grade students participated in the assessment with 48 percent scoring in the middle or high third.

A new Algebra 1 EOC scale will be established this fall that will be used in subsequent years and will become the new baseline for school accountability. Beginning with students entering 9th grade in the 2011-2012 school year, all students enrolled in Algebra 1 or an equivalent course must earn a passing score on the Algebra 1 EOC Assessment in order to earn course credit, as required to meet graduation requirements.
