M-DCPS TO HOST THE PUERTO RICO DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, JULY 6-8

MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Public Schools will host a delegation from the Puerto Rico Department of Education (PRDE) for a three-day visit beginning Wednesday, July 6.  The delegation is seeking to learn about the District’s structure and processes, as well as to engage in conversations about how to improve their schools.  The Puerto Rico Department of Education sought out M-DCPS as a result of its educational innovations and capacity to raise the achievement of struggling children while simultaneously providing opportunities for acceleration and advancement for its highest performing students in the face of economic adversity and increased accountability.

The delegation, which includes Puerto Rican Secretary of Education Dr. Jésus Rivera Sanchez and Undersecretary of Education Dr. Grisel Muñoz, among other educators, will hear information about the District’s Educational Transformation Office, School Improvement, Data Systems, Professional Development, Human Resources, and Special Education.

“We are delighted to host the delegation from Puerto Rico to share with them our best practices,” said Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho, “particularly those related to the transformation of low-performing schools and providing a quality education in a complex urban environment.”
