SCHOOL BOARD UNANIMOUSLY APPROVES SUPERINTENDENT CARVALHO’S TENTATIVE BUDGET AND REORGANIZATION PLAN MIAMI – The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida unanimously approved Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho’s reorganization plan and tentative budget during a meeting yesterday. The proposed $3.9 billion budget includes a tentative tax rate of $8 for every $1,000 of assessed property value, a reduction from last year. The plan protects the classroom and the school district’s core workforce. The reorganization plan enhances the school district’s strategic framework by streamlining operations, identifying and eliminating redundancies, reducing operating costs and generating a balanced budget. The approved reorganization will result in an annual net savings of $13.7 million. The reorganization plan includes transitioning from five region centers to four region centers, empowering school-based decisions by allocating all school support personnel in one pool of dollars, consolidating Adult, Vocational and Alternative Education programs and establishing an ERP Maintenance and Sustainability Plan. The plan establishes an innovative Performance Pay for principals and assistant principals, which will be funded by Race to the Top and grant dollars. The Succession Management Plan builds a database of leaders while providing and developing critical experiences and professional development. # # # 11-JJS/130/DF |
