M-DCPS LOOKING FOR TEACHERS WITH THE ‘RIGHT STUFF’ AMONG
NASA SHUTTLE STAFF

With the recent retirement of the Space Shuttle Program, Miami-Dade County Public Schools is reaching out to the 1,900 scientists on the Space Coast area who may be searching for new careers.

Earlier this year, a survey was conducted to determine if there was an interest among the scientists to obtain teacher certification for the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses.  Approximately 100 scientists showed interest.

New magnet schools such as José Martí MAST 6-12 Academy, a new Mathematics and Science-based middle/high school, which are searching for highly qualified individuals in the fields of Mathematics and Science, would benefit from these individuals.
