STUDENTS FROM MOURNING HIGH’S ACADEMY OF LEGAL STUDIES TO CELEBRATE ‘CONSTITUTION WEEK’ @ NORTH DADE JUSTICE CENTER
The Academy of Legal Studies at Alonzo & Tracy Mourning Senior High School will celebrate “Constitution Week” with judges from the North Dade Justice Center, who will host an interactive presentation on Monday, Sept. 19, from noon to 2 p.m. at the North Dade Justice Center, 15555 Biscayne Blvd., Suite #100, North Miami Beach.
The event was created to foster understanding of the Constitution, including the Preamble, Articles and Amendments. The featured speaker is attorney Arthur Garcia, who will discuss professionalism in the practice of law. Students will learn how to apply the core values of the legal profession including, truth, integrity and using good judgment.
This event is part of a series of programs and internships spearheaded by Judge Myriam Lehr and Associate Administrative Judge Linda Singer Stein of the County Court Civil Division.
“We are extremely proud to provide information and liaisons with the students to help them learn about a legal career and responsibilities of members of the Bar,” said Stein.
As part of this partnership with the school, the judges have hosted the students for a panel discussion with all the judges of North Dade on the issues of domestic violence, traffic, civil and criminal law. The judges have visited the school with their bailiffs and have discussed diversity and various career paths in the law. Additionally, several students interned with Lehr to observe and discuss court cases involving small claims, contract and accidents, among others.
