SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS ALBERTO M. CARVALHO MEETS WITH PRESIDENT OBAMA AS VICE PRESIDENT BIDEN TOURS MIAMI SCHOOL

A BUSY DAY FOR MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

As a result of Superintendent of Schools Alberto M. Carvalho’s September 14th testimony before the United States House Education & Workforce Committee,  Superintendent Carvalho was invited by President Barack Obama to the White House this morning as the President announced new efforts to improve educational outcomes, provide flexibility to states, and advance reform under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) – currently known as No Child Left Behind.

As Carvalho was meeting with the President in Washington, D.C., Vice President of the United States Joe Biden was making his way to Gertrude K. Edelman/Sabal Palm Elementary School to highlight the American Jobs Act proposal, which is designed to create jobs by rebuilding and modernizing schools across the country.  The administration is proposing a $25 billion investment in school infrastructure.  Miami-Dade County Public Schools could receive up to $267 million in funds under the proposal, which could translate to 3,500 jobs.
