COMMUNITY MEETING TO DISCUSS SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT ISSUES AND OPPORTUNITIES RELATED TO MIAMI EDISON AND MIAMI CENTRAL SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS

The first of three public meetings to address school improvement issues and opportunities related to Miami Edison and Miami Central senior high schools will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 18 from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. at Miami Edison Middle School, 6101 N.W. 2nd Avenue, Miami, FL 33127. The state-mandated and state-funded meetings are part of the conditions for a waiver allowing the district to manage these two intervene high schools for an additional year

Miami-Dade County Public Schools and the Florida Department of Education have teamed up to provide these meetings as a way to explore options for improving student learning at the two high schools. The purpose of the meetings is to engage the community in a wide range of possible solutions that are in the best interest of the schools’ communities. The meetings will also review national and internationally recognized models for increasing student performance.

The first meeting will include motivational speaker Manuel Scott, whose inspirational story is told in the Hollywood movie, Freedom Writers.

Box social dinners will be served, and child care, transportation and door prizes will be provided.

The second meeting will take place at Central High School November 8 and the third meeting will be held at Miami Edison Senior on December 14.
