VETERAN M-DCPS EDUCATOR APPOINTED TO KEY
ADMINISTRATION POST BY PRESIDENT OBAMA

MIAMI - Dr. Jayne D. Greenberg, District Director of Physical Education and Health Literacy for Miami-Dade County Public Schools, is one of six individuals who were nominated to key administration posts by President Barack Obama, on Monday.  Greenberg, a long-time educator, was appointed a member of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition.

Previously, Greenberg served as Special Advisor on Youth Fitness to the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports and as President of the Florida Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Dance, and Driver Education.  She assisted the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in developing the “I Can Do It, You Can Do It Program,” addressing physical activity for youth with disabilities.

“These dedicated individuals bring a wealth of experience and talent to their new roles and I am proud to have them serve in this Administration.  I look forward to working with them in the months and years to come,” said President Obama.

In 2009, Greenberg was honored with the Florida Governor’s Point of Light Award, and she also was appointed to the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness that same year.

Greenberg, who has a bachelor’s from the University of Massachusetts, and a master’s and doctorate from Florida International University, was named the 2005 National Physical Education Administrator of the Year by the National Association of Sport and Physical Education, and also was presented with the 2005 Highest Recognition Award by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services.
