Xavier Cortada’s Reclamation Project

Sponsored by the Sunset Elementary PTA, students in the school will receive tree seedlings to be planted on school grounds as well as an artistic green flag designed by Cortada, in order to help re-grow South Florida’s native urban habitats. Students will mount the seedlings on a window pane art installation in the building. In addition to planting a flag and tree on campus, 200 students will receive their own tree to plant at home. This activity teaches students the importance of environmental sustainability and highlights the fact that the more trees they plant and nurture to maturity, the cleaner the air will be, and the smaller our collective carbon footprint will be.
