CHESS KINGS, QUEENS BRING NATIONAL HONORS TO The Miami-Dade County Public Schools Title I Schools Chess players had much success this year at the 2012 National Elementary Chess Championship. The K-6 grade students enjoyed much success in the competition arena, demonstrated their skills in critical thinking and developed new friendships. They displayed responsibility, discipline, self-confidence, concentration, commitment, sportsmanship and respect. Six schools represented the District in the competition held last May in Nashville, Tenn.; five elementary schools: Riverside, Olympia Heights, Scott Lake, Norwood and Biscayne, and Rockway Middle. The chess program at Norwood was founded 12 years ago and the Knights have become one of the most respected teams in Scholastic Chess. They currently are the 2012 elementary-level state champions. They also did very well at the nationals, finishing in the top 20.
