WHY: |
The Centennial Ocean Academy of Science and Technology (C.O.A.S.T.) program is being expanded from a 6-8 program into a 6-12 magnet academy. The courses offered are designed to provide students with four essential aspects of marine and environmental education in South Florida.
These aspects include the following: a fundamental study of water and its relationship to local, natural and cultural history; recreation skill development through outdoor education; personal and interpersonal development skills leading to effective employability qualities; and an introduction to careers related to seagoing military, marine science technology and maritime occupations.
