OKLAHOMA PUBLIC SCHOOLS PAY OFF FRIENDLY WAGER IN NBA FINALS MIAMI – Last June, right before the Miami Heat defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in four straight games to win the World Championship, Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho and Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCS) Superintendent Karl Springer placed a friendly wager on the outcome of the NBA Championship. This week it was time to pay up! Following the terms of the wager, Superintendent Springer donned a Miami Heat jersey and taught a class on the history of Miami to students at one of his schools. Superintendent Carvalho followed the simulcast from his office in the School Board Administration Building and helped teach the class. A Kindergarten class at North Highland Elementary learned about our Everglades, the alligator, our state bird the mockingbird, as well as about orange juice, Thomas Edison and their favorite topic – Mickey Mouse and Disney World.
