FIVE FINALISTS VIE FOR MIAMI-DADE'S
TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Miami-Dade County Public Schools will host the 2014 Francisco R. Walker Miami-Dade County Teacher of the Year dinner to name the most outstanding teacher throughout the District on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 6:00 p.m. at The Doubletree by Hilton Hotel & Miami Airport Convention Center.  The hotel is located at 711 N.W. 72th Ave., Miami, FL 33126.

The five finalists, the regions they represent and their schools are listed as follows:

  • North – Ms. Maria Donohue – Hialeah Gardens Senior High School
  • Central – Mr. Bradley Sultz – iPreparatory Academy
  • South – Marshall Ruffo - Centennial Middle
  • Education Transformation Office (ETO) – Ms. Christine Napoles   -  Hialeah Middle
  • Adult/Alternative – Ms. Susan Castleman  - Educational Alternative Outreach Program

The presenting sponsors are South Florida Educational Federal Credit Union, Munilla Family Foundation/ MCM, along with co-sponsors by Univision 23, United Way of Miami-Dade, Nova Southeastern University Abraham Fischler School of Education, Fox-Mar Photography, and in partnership with United Teachers of Dade, Dade Association of School Administrators (DASA), and Miami-Dade County Council of PTAs/PTSAs.  Kendall Toyota will present the winner with the keys to a new Scion iQ.

The Rookie Teacher of the Year finalists will also be recognized and the winner announced.  The finalists are listed as follows:

  • North – Carlos Arturo Herrera Rivera, Meadowlane Elementary
  • Central – Aaron Taylor, Henry E.S. Reeves Elementary
  • South – Jessica Mouttet, W. R. Thomas Middle
  • Education Transformation Office (ETO) – Mary Raynell Lantor, Morningside K-8 Academy
  • Adult/Alternative – Vera M. Ferguson, Lindsey Hopkins Technical Ed. Center
