ACADEMY OF FINANCE STUDENTS WIN IPADS PRESENTED BY
FIU COLLEGE OF BUSINESS
More than 400 Miami-Dade County Public School’s high school juniors enrolled in the National Academy Foundation Finance programs visited the College of Business at Florida International University. The students participated in the “I Am C2—College and Career Ready.” The event emphasized preparing now for internships and college and how opportunities will follow.
During the seminar, Dr. David Klock, Dean of the College of Business, challenged the students to share their day’s experience by submitting a reflective essay using a multimedia or written format. Entries were judged by Executive Committee members of the Academy of Finance Advisory Board. The winners, Erica Reira from Coral Reef Senior High School and Liurys Alvarez from Booker T. Washington Senior High School, both received iPads.
In addition to students selecting areas of interest, they were able to engage with technology that included a tour of the State Farm Financial Literacy Lab where students used the Bloomberg financial computer terminals. They also heard from several Academy of Finance Advisory Board members who shared personal experiences, guidance and encouragement. The highlight of the event was the opportunity to participate in several workshops presented by FIU Professors on Finance, Accounting, International Business and Marketing.
The Academy of Finance is a member of the National Academy Foundation (NAF). NAF academies function as dynamic partnerships and collaborations between schools, teachers, administrators, business volunteers, and an active Advisory Board led by industry professionals. NAF Academy students complement their core academic studies with a focus on one of the following career themes: Finance, Hospitality & Tourism, Information Technology, Engineering or Health Sciences.
