M-DCPS ACHIEVES SIGNIFICANT GAINS IN SMALL AND Since its inception in February of this year, the Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ (M-DCPS) Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) has achieved a 46.2 percent increase in Small Business Enterprise/Microbusiness Enterprise and Minority/Women Business Enterprise certifications. It is estimated that by the end of the Fiscal Year 2013 more than 135 new applications will be processed as a result of increased participation by OEO in community outreach events. In order to increase visibility in the business community, OEO has embarked in attending several community outreach events. To date, OEO has been present at 13 outreach events and will continue to attend future events. The intent of OEO is to promote the economic development and growth of Small/Micro Business Enterprises and Minority/Women Business Enterprises through its certification program, community outreach programs, contract review and monitoring activities in addition to ongoing interaction with other municipal agencies, quasi-public agencies and the local marketplace. The OEO strives to ensure that local SBE’s, MBE’s, and M/WBE’s have the maximum opportunity to do business with the School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida and to provide equal opportunity for all segments of the contracting community. OEO currently operates under School Board Policy 6320.02.
