M-DCPS SUPERINTENDENT ALBERTO CARVALHO TO SPEAK AT MIAMI – Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho will be a panelist at a roundtable discussion for newspaper and radio news editors titled, “Under the Gun: Gun Violence, Gun Laws and the Media,” being held at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City this week. Carvalho is one of more than a dozen experts in various fields from around the U.S., Canada and Australia. The Superintendent will be joined by Judge Willie Lipscomb of Michigan’s 36th District Court and founder of the Handgun Prevention Program, and Connie Rice, executive director of the Advancement Project in Los Angeles. Their session, “Guns, Gangs and Kids: Tackling Gun Safety in a Culture of Violence,” will be held Wedneday, May 15 from 8:30-10 a.m. The roundtable will have more than 15 editors from major newspapers and public radio stations across the country who will hear discussions about guns on six different topics ranging from politics, mental health, schools and around the world. # # # 13-JS/111/HD |
